During their conversion to the “Night Attack” AV-8B NA in 1989, the Black Sheep subsequently added the radar equipped AV-8B+ to their inventory. Distinguishable by the reshaped nose, housing the same AN/APG-65 radar carried by the F/A-18.
165421 is depicted in the dark grey camo pattern adopted late in the Harrier’s USMC career loaded for an Interdiction sortie. She carries a pair of GBU-31(V)/B JDAM 2000 lbs. GPS guided bombs on her center wing stations and an AN/AAQ-2(V9)8 Litening Advanced Targeting Pod on the centerline station. Beside the Litening Pod are the externally mounted GAU-12/U 25mm cannon pods. For self-defense, she also carries a pair of AIM-9M-10 IR missiles and full dispensers of chaff and flares. To extend her range, a pair of 330 Gallon drop tanks are mounted on the inboard wing stations.
