The Tacos of the New Mexico Air National Guard have history dating back to just after WWII when they stood up as the 188th Fighter Bomber Squadron. Through the years, they flew F-51’s then transitioned to jets flying the F-80, the F-100, and the A-7 before transitioning to the Block 40 Viper in 1992.

Depicted is 88-0504 ready for a surface attack sortie. She is shown carrying a pair of GBU-12 500 lb LGB’s and a AN/AAQ-28 Litening pod to guide them, a 2 x AIM-120 2 x AIM-8 missile load for self-defense and to augment the dedicated air-to-air assets, an AN/ALQ-184 long ECM pod for counter measures, and a pair of 370-gallon wing tanks to get there and back.
